Install light timer switch

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

I have a back porch light that I wish to install a timer switch for. I only have ground (green), hot (black), and neutral (white) wires available from the wall. The timer has those, plus a blue wire (for three-way) and a red wire (for load). I'm instructed to cap off the blue wire (not needed) and connect the red wire to the light's load. I don't have a load wire coming in. Nor is it behind the box containing the original switch. What do I do? Can the red load wire be connected to the hot(black)?
