Scroll Wheel is "stuck" in frictionless scrolling mode

My MX Master 3 mouse works great and I'm using it now EXCEPT that my scroll wheel is in ***frictionless scrolling mode*** and I can't switch it back to ***ratcheting scroll mode*** (which I prefer)***.*** When I click the "mode" button, the mouse input pauses for a moment (1 to 2 seconds maybe) and then it resumes to work in frictionless mode. I've tried all the software/firmware related fixes to no avail. Anyone else have this problem and solve it?
