desktop hdd isn't getting recognized by system ( not showing)

my pc is very old[br]
motherboard p7h55[br]
seagate 1tb (old)hdd[br]
intel core i5 cpu[br]

so like past 3 months pc keeps bugging all the time
first os was running in this hdd - couldn't start always showed pc is under repair / fixing drive c: where i installed os [br]
so i fixed it by running os on a different (not so new) hdd (now it works fine)[br]
[br]
but now (old) hdd is not getting recognized by pc [br]
[br]
should change to ssd [br]
would i be able to recover my files from (*old)HDD
is it possible that old HDD is dead
should i change the motherboard ?
