I had the sane issue and after fighting with it for a while I figured out that I had ROKU app installed and they seem to be incompatible with each other. Basically you can have one or the other but if you pair them first then use them for the ROKU app then the dot cannot find them. So I uninstalled the ROKU app and they found them no problem.
