HDMI port not outputting. even when screen is disconnected

I got a 2.4 GHz Retina 15" Early 2013 with a dead backlight. I disconnected the display and I'm trying to output through HDMI but the port itself does not work. I have a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and it does work as it does output, but overtime it'll disconnect and I have to shutdown the laptop and power it back on for it to work again.[br]

If anyone has a solution for this, please help me out. Thanks!
