Hi Jack,
I'm afraid screens on modern cell phones really can't be repaired; doing so correctly requires things like UV chambers, vacuum chambers, vacuum tables and wire guides, none of which most of us have lying around the house.
So really the fix for you is going to be to replace the screen. Doing it yourself is quite feasible with a set of instructions which just happens to be what this whole site is all about. Given the age of your phone, prices on screens have come down to the point where they're quite affordable; many of the ones I saw online were in the $25 to $30 USD range. Here's one that came up on my cursory search.

The screen comes in two versions; with and without the frame. The only guide I was able to locate is for the one with the frame, so that's the one I suggest getting. Here are the instructions I found on a French site called SOSav.

Be sure to get a sheet of precut adhesive to glue the rear case back on when you're done.
Good luck; let us know how it goes!
