Without seeing the part, it's going to be hard to help you fix this.  I just picked up this blaster recently and modded it with a shortened Pharaoh spring to give it more distance and was able to put it together, so I know it disassembles and reassembles easily.  I do know that, if it is the catch, you have to hold it down in place as you are lowering the shell back on. Once it is closed, it should stay in place.
