I found a [link|https://medium.com/badvr/oculus-quest-headset-disassembly-2f404b004a3c|fairly thorough teardown|new_window=true] of the device and it looks to me like the charge port is part of a flex cable which also carries signals from whatever other minor boards or components are on that side of the headset to the main board.
