Water Dispenser Dripping Oily Gummy Substance

I noticed our GE Profile refrigerator is leaking some oily, gummy fluid onto the dispenser valve plate.

I wiped it up a few days ago and didn't think much of it. Now, I see it running down the plastic valve actuator plate you press on to dispense water. I believe it's dripping into the collection pan at the bottom of the dispenser - I can feel it. It's slimy in the water that collects there. [br]

What is it? Where is it coming from and what do I do?  This unit might be pretty tired - it came with this house built in 2006.
