There's got to be a reason why the ribbon cable melted e.g. there's too much current flowing in the cable so it heats up, so you may have to find out why otherwise the new ribbon cable may burn out as well. Possible problem with the backlights in the screen perhaps. Has the laptop been dropped or gotten wt at all?
