MacBook powers on, but stays on gray screen

Good Morning,

I have a MacBook 13in older than the description given ) that powers on, but stays on the gray MacBook logo loading screen.  I’ve powered the machine off several times and it just stays on the screen.  It seems like it’s trying to load, but fails to do so.  I do hear the fan running to keep everything cool.

Let me know what you think I should do.
