You don't have to pull the battery. The 2014 has rivets holding keyboard in place. They get trashed when you pull it. You have to buy screws, they don't come with the keyboard replacement from here at ifixit. I got them on Amazon.

Also, you don't NEED a new backlight, but it makes it easier.

And my thinking was,  if I'm going this far, the battery needs replacing and I'm in here anyway...
