Today, while riding my Ariens lawn tractor shut off. I was pulling a lawn sweeper attachment to pick up the thatch I just created with a pull behind dethatcher. I still had about 1/3 tank of gas when it shut off. When I turn the key, nothing happened at all. After checking something, like the fuse, make sure nothing was disconnected, I threw a meter on the battery and it showed under 11 volts. I took one of my 20v Dewalt batteries and attached a coupler jumpers to see if it would at least try to crank, and it did. So I ran out and bought a new battery, which reads 12.5 volts. After installing it, it just cranks and cranks. I tried jumping the leads on the solenoid and it still just cranks and cranks. I have not tried cranking with the gas cap off yet, but will when I go back out there. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try as well in case the gas cap vent is not the issue? The fact it shut off mid ride and then would not even crank until I replaced the battery has me thinking that it is not the gas cap, but I will try anyway just in case.
