I solve this problem with my Keurig bye breaking the small plastic tree on both sides and removing it. You have to do this a bit past the point where the Chrome bar is. In doing this the lid now goes up and down no problem although it is not quite as smooth however I lost a bit of functionality in that the lid no longer stays up for you when you place the pod inside the machine in other words you have to hold it up put the pot in and then put it back down. If you try this make sure that you unplug the Keurig first for electrical safety.
