More than likely when the phone was removed, the actual display came free from the frame it’s mounted to. Included images for reference of what the inside with no display should look like. The silver bit around the edge of the back of the display is likely still seating in the enclosure. You should be able to pop it out with a tool, just be mindful of the battery and other components. The clips just snap in place and will come free with enough force.
