Personally I would never connect a water damaged component to any electronic device that was working OK unless I could see the extent of the damage and test for any potential problems before doing so.
With an LCD screen you cannot see the internal damage and you would need the schematics to be able to test for any problems.
-You really don’t know unless you test for it or you are willing to gamble and then perhaps end up with two problems instead of one, a faulty display and another possibly faulty systemboard.
