Hi there!

I’m getting some parts for a 2019 iMac 21.5” 4k retina (19,2 model). Base model with a 3.6GHz i3 qcore, 8GB RAM and 1TB non fusion HDD.

So far I got OWC 2x 16GB RAM and 1TB Crucial MX500 SSD ready to be installed. Now that I’m getting the thing stripped I’m considering also a CPU upgrade and have looked at the i7 8700 (non K) which has the same TDP 65w and is supposed to fit in the LGA1151 socket…

Whereas SSD and RAM seem pretty straight forward the CPU bit makes me doubt… I’m lazy when it comes to reinstall ios and apps so I’d like to know if this is necessary after a CPU change or just by having the SSD cloned from the HDD will do. I have already booted the iMac using the new SSD SATA-USB connected and besides MS Office, everything else is working just fine… BTW MS Office just requires signing in your MS account and reinstall it, don’t even need the activation key.

I appreciate any comments regarding the CPU upgrade and the effect on ios, thanks a lot!
