For posterity’s sake, when my 2013 Macbook died I used this enclosure: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DFDX8WC/ref=twister_B0946V3PRL?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 The drive could not be seen by other computers when plugged in, but if I plugged it into my 2012 Macbook and changed the startup disk to it, I could boot up with it. Then, I just moved all my data onto a USB drive from there.
