I spent 2 hours tonight with my cousins new to them home they just bought that has a Ring 1 at the front door. An iPhone or Android would both hook to the Ring 1, but the Ring 1 would not progress past the step of hooking to the WiFi. Time after time it just timed out after entering the WiFi password. I read this entire page and cobbled together the solution from other suggestions. The answer was this… I turned on the 2.4ghz Guest WiFi network and set it to Open with no password. Then did the setup again and the Ring 1 immediately hooked to the WiFi network through the app and began an update of the firmware through the app. After about 7-10 minutes the app reported it was ready and I could see the live video from the Ring 1. I then turned off the Guest WiFi and used the app to change the WiFi of the Ring 1 to the 2.4ghz network with the password and it immediately worked then. I believe it was obviously an older firmware that has since been updated to work with newer routers. If your Ring won't hook to your WiFi, try connecting to an open network with no password and checking for new firmware.
