Mac Pro 2019 SSDs do not work in the iMac Pro 2017

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

I have an iMac Pro here with a defective SSD. Apple is selling Mac Pro 2019 SSDs on their website, and they look identical to the ones in the iMac Pro. I also found an eBay seller listing the Mac Pro 2019 SSD as compatible with the iMac Pro. So based on those two '''very''' reliable sources, I tried installing a 2TB set in the iMac Pro.
The Mac is completely unresponsive. It can be found in DFU mode, but when I try to restore it using Apple Configurator I get the error:
-
Gave up waiting for device to transition from RestoreOS state to BootedOS State. [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore – 0xFA5 (4005)]
So this post is just to inform people who might get the same idea.

+Edit: it turns out they most likely ARE compatible, and that if you have this error, you simply need to swap the left and right SSD.
