What is the make and model number of the fan?
Post some images of the problem. Here's how to do this on ifixit [guide|21499].
I suggest that you disconnect the power to the fan (fuse, circuit breaker or if this no good because of no lights etc tape over the On/Off switch on the wall (if there is one) to prevent the fan from being accidentally started until the problem has been fixed
