For a simple point-and-shoot camera your best bet might be to buy a new one. But, I think there's a slight possibility you can fix it.

My kodak had a hard time starting and the zoom lens struggled to come out. Then an error would show and the camera would turn off. I opened it up taking out the few visible screws and found dirt and sand in the mechanism. The camera works great again. Warning: Watch out for the dedicated flash battery and exposed contacts if you open the camera. I closed the circuit a few times with my fingers and got a little zap.
