How to remove battery with no tabs for the adhesive?

I have an iPhone 5S, and the battery life is not the best at the moment, so I thought I would replace it. I go to all the bother of opening up the phone, and working through half the repair, only to find that the tab used to pull out the adhesive strips don’t seem to exist. In the guide, they run a spudger along between the headphone jack and the battery to unfold the tab, but mine simply does not have that. It’s also worth noting that I don’t think it has been opened before, and the battery is an apple one.[br]
