Does not charge, blinks red and exclamation mark appears.

I have a shark ion vaccum. I place it on the doc and the three bars will just continually charge forever. If you leave it on long enough and try to run it you get a red “clean” and a red “!”. I called shark and they said to purchase a new one. Anyone know how to fix this or is shark correct in saying just buy a new one? Thanks!!
