I think that the notch is there to hold wires when soldering them in.[br]
-I haven’t seen it done but suspect maybe it is if you don’t want to use metal pliers etc to hold the wire in position whilst soldering it, especially if it were on esd sensitive component connections with small connections.

You can loop the wire in the notch and then hold the end of the wire down with the end of the spudger.
Just what I think anyway ;-)
