How do I get the auxiliary cord tip out of the port and how do I get?

The auxiliary cord tip broke off in the port of my IPOD. I purchased the headphone plug extraction tool and proceeded to try to take the plug out as instructed. I don’t know where the tip got to, but the headphones will now plug into it. Now my IPOD doesn’t work at all
