Start button is pressed, game glitches out after few seconds.

As title says, when I try running my copy of Red Rescue Team, and try to skip the intro by pressing start the game glitches out with crackling and static noises. I just cleaned the game itself as the copper bits were very dirty. Game did not save once I did a quick run through of it, saved, and tried pressing the start button after a quick reset.
