Games freeze, no hard drive

I just bought an Xbox 360. All games freeze at startup (Skate 3, Fable 3, Mass Effect). I can navigate the menu with no issues. I went to clear the cache, but found there was no hard drive.

I read that open world games take a lot of processing power and I can freeze when there's not enough storage. Is this accurate? If not what can I do?
