Anti-static Setup // ESD Safe // noob question

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

Hello all. First time posting here - shamefully, with such a basic inquiry.

Preface…

I’ve read every single source of information I could possibly find, with incessant confusing or contradicting info. A few emails to iFixit support was an absolute waste of time as well. They literally told me to do everything I mentioned in my message, as if they didn’t even read it. Disappointing exchange, but oh well….

I’m busting open my mid12 MBPr 15” to clean it out really well, particularly the fans d/t them revving up more frequently and seeming to be a bit louder than before.

I’m comfortable with all that, but I’ll be starting from scratch (re: 0% experience) so I’ll need an anti-static mat / strap setup to work on, and I planned on getting the portable one sold here.

Could someone be so kind to help me out by explaining specifically what I’ll need to do to procure a safe workspace? Will I need a ground plug adapter? I don’t really have anything to ground to (besides outlet), and my desktop is made of glass. Honestly just looking for some streamlined guidance so I can finally get started on my project. Thanks in advance for your time!
