Owned 2 Dyson V6 and this happened to me twice where the lid  just came off when I accidentally hit it into something. Anyway I just positioned the head down on the carpet with the lid on a wide open position and angle the lid a little bit so the right side goes in first and put a little pressure down and it should snap back in place.
