Don’t know the dryer, but here’s an image of the wiring diagram that may help.

In the diagram it also shows a ''cycling thermostat'' in the heater circuit, (I think this may be called the [https://www.searspartsdirect.com/product/2hpr5j2p38-0026-464/id-304475|dryer operating thermostat - part #8 motor drive parts diagram] but was thinking that since you said the heater worked without the drum in place that it should also be OK.
-Here’s the [https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/3m4c0dkc9n-003048/maytag-lde6004acw-dryer-parts|parts list], ensure that you look at the electric model variant diagrams and not the gas model as the model number is very close, ''acw'' for electric, ''aaw'' for gas.
