How to fix iPod? Is it the logic board?

Hi,

I have a U2 30gb 5th gen video iPod. I have left it plugged in for several hours with nothing on the screen. I have also plugged in and it hasn’t recognised it. A Noise was coming from the iPod. I have since opened it up and removed the HDD and the battery.  I plugged the cable back to see if any noise could still be heard- this was the case. [br]

Should I start with a new battery? I’m concerned it could be a total rebuild and the Logic board and screen have gone? [br]
