-happened to my surface laptop 1, i did a fix that was super ghetto as it was out of warranty. Essentially, you peel off the metal shroud on the underside of the touchpad so it drops back in. Clicks will register again without this shroud, and the touchpad will sit flush again. Hope this helps someone as i found no help online and wound up cracking my touchpad a lil bit trying to find a fix.
