@russellran12 I would suspect that you have an issue with your home plumbing draining slow. The hot water would have nothing to do with draining. Or, you could have a pump motor overheating and cutting off and when it cools it comes back on.
If the water in the dishwasher has an odor it could be that the drain is backing into the dishwasher. The dishwasher will wash,drain, wash, drain several times in the cycle. You should hear it drain several times, not just at the beginning.
