Like you I used to have serious issues with a different model Motorola phone (E4 Plus). I later discovered it was due to terrible support in my area for GSM sim carded phones not my carriers fault. I got new CDMA sim cards later from my carrier for just a few dollars. Problem solved both the E4 Plus and my newer X4 both work perfectly now. Who is your carrier and what type sim card is it? Looking there you should see which of the two types of sim cards you have unless you are on a different android version to mine.
