How do I sequentially diagnose/repair non-functionality cruise cntrl?

After being involved in a fender-bender rear end collision, (trunk latch now non-functional and minor area plastic deformations sum total of damages), car arrived to me as a family gift. I have no other historical awareness to supplement remedial efforts.

RE 2005 JETTA TDI w/ 209k miles…..After being involved in a fender-bender rear end collision, (trunk latch now non-functional and minor area plastic deformations sum total of damages), car arrived to me as a family gift. I have no other historical awareness to supplement remedial efforts.
Clicking the turn signal cruise switch lights up the dash/speedo icon but no other systemic response function forthcomes.
