Yes you have to remove the door trim, the glass, the rear channel and the outside handle base to get to the outside door handle.
You don’t give the exact year model or the engine type but I’m assuming that the rear door handle removal procedure is the same for all 2005-2008 Kia Sportage, all engine types.
