Issue after charging iPod

I have a 5th gen ipod nano that was working just fine. I plugged in to charge & when I unplugged it got a message saying “ok to disconnect” & now it won't  work at all. Just the message on the screen buttons not working. Any ideas? Thanks, Kathy
