I had the same problem my go pro hero 5 also got water damaged, it was in a pool but even so i put it in rice didnt help, charged it and it just got hot, mu advice is to watch the videos on how to take it apart and then wash all the parts in a 80% alcohol solution. mine isnt fixed yet but ive heard that it has worked for some people, very unhappy with go pro.
