This is most likely a problem with the LCD panel.  I've seen faulty panels exibit all kinds of strange behavior.  Depending on factors like the temperature, LCD panels can die quicker.  [product|IF163-024|Here] is a replacement part, and [guide|2988|here] is a guide to replace the LCD panel.
