No audio: "No output devices found"

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

I have an 11” MacBook Air that isn’t outputting sound through the internal speakers or headphone jack. Under output devices in System Preferences we get “No output devices found”. We reset the PRAM/NVRAM and SMC as usual, no dice. Is this just faulty hardware or a software bug?

Update: Running Apple Diagnostics gives an error stating there may be an issue with the audio device and code VFF001
