Hi Tracey, you don’t give us much information so the answer will be a little speculative.
There are some components next to the '''''battery''''' connector that would cause exactly these symptoms. These components are on a line that communicates the charge state of the battery to the CPU and when they are missing or damaged, the CPU has no idea what’s going on and the charging stops. This can happen when they are accidentally pried off the board when un-seating the battery connector.
Unless the damage is severe, this should be repairable by an experienced micro-solderer.
