If the tablet works OK when it is plugged in it sounds as though there may be a problem with the battery not holding its’ charge. Even rechargeable batteries have a life span.

If the tablet works OK when it is plugged in i.e. the Power and Volume buttons work OK, it sounds as though there may be that the battery is failing and not holding its’ charge. Even rechargeable batteries have a life span.
Try replacing the battery and see if this resolves the problem.
