I have an early 2015 13” Macbook Air, I got me an adapter and a Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD - CT1000P1SSD8, this one does not work. I suspect that it is the controller on the SSD disk that the firmware in the computer is not able to connect to. I installed a Mojave operating system on a USB stick also Ubuntu but neither of then could see the disk, there are various controllers in these disks, and since Samsung is the producer of most of the disks for these laptops then it is most likely that until a firmware update (at least for early 2015 Macbook Air) is available the Samsung is the best bet.
