I have been helped greatly by ifixit getting my eMac going again but had to reload OSX.
It asked me if I wanted to archive and instal .. ticked yes and proceeded to boot all three discs.
The computer is up and running but has only 4Gg of hard drive available .. where is the other 34Gg hiding and can it be accessed to get back lost vital information.

I did as asked and found all the makings of a duplicate set of applications ( not enough to use 36Gg )but no other information which means I think everything got erased and that I should just do a clean re-install and mourn the loss of all my iPhoto's and other saved items?. I will wait to see what you recommend!

Mayer what a task you have given me .. I typed in .jpg and got 6700 jpg's which I have now got to sort through and load onto CD rom disks (I dont have a DVD superdrive in that eMac..) Space taken up by this lot is 2.68Gg (a lot of it is system .jpegs). There are some CWK's but nothing else that I can find in any other formats.
When this is done a good clean will give me a decent storage computer.
Many thanks
Tony

Hello Mayer
Unfortunately none of the .jpgs are in any folders so I will just go through them according to their size onto a 4Gg dongle .. in this case a slowish procedure because the USB is 1 and then refine the selection on the other computer which s USB 2.
I must say at this stage you have taught me a lot and it is a pity I am only now getting used to forums!
many thanks
Tony
