I am experiencing the same with a macbook pro 13 inch mid 2017 wit the 2 usb-c. It is a 2 months old mac. I closed it and the next day when i opened it it had a crack on the display bottom bar - left side towards the center. !!! I took it back and i was told after a day that i need to ay 5500 danish kr to have my screen replaced !!!  I complained and the manager told me he will further investigate.
