Dan There is a battery in the sensor and they do tend to last a long time . That said your van is 14 years old and I think the batteries have done quite well to have lasted this long . I’m suprised the tire shop didn’t try to sell you a new set of sensors . You can get a new set of 4 for under a hundred dollars on ebay or amazon and there not that hard to replace . Its just a matter of letting the air out of your tires and breaking the bead at the valve and then pushing the tire down to the point of being able to remove the valve and replacing it with the new unit .
