You don’t need to go through a whole OS reinstall every time your calculator freezes, just press the ‘reset’ button on the back of the calculator. Your RAM will be cleared but it’s a much quicker (only takes a second to perform) and easier fix since you don’t need a separate computer to perform it.
To prevent losing data just because a program crashed, I highly suggest installing a shell (a shell is basically a program that can run other programs with added features) called Cesium. Cesium has several backup features that will restore your data if one of your programs ever crashes! The developer, MateoConLechuga (the same guy that made Oiram, ChessCE, PacMan CE and numerous other popular calculator games) has an information thread about the shell [https://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11995&start=0|here] and a download to the shell [http://ceme.tech/DL1372|here].
Reinstalling the OS is certainly a good thing to know how to do however, I don’t suggest doing it unless your calculator still doesn’t work after resetting the RAM.
P.S. if you ever encounter any other issues with your calculator, there’s a guide [guide|111572|here on iFixit] that should help you fix most issues!
