How do you for sure tell that the logic board is dead?

A few months back I bought an iphone 8 plus that was very damaged, it had been run over. Owner decided to just sell it as he'd gotten a new one. Battery had expanded so that was removed. I havent touched it in months, but I suspect the logic board is dead, is there any way to know for sure before I find another one? I have a new screen and battery, doesnt show any signs of powering up. Original owner also threw the screen away, gave me the original home button but its just the button and not the flex cables that are supposed to be there.
