powered cradle shorts and does not work

i have replaced the powered charger cradle and used new cords  but the unit shorts out and stops charging. the usb port works but it is a different connector for the cradle and thats where i have to plug in the traffic adapter. thinking the connectors are damaged to the circut board. is there hope of repair?
